What is NCLB?
Generally known as NCLB, the No Child Left Behind Act (2001) is the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). It was signed into law on January 8, 2002 and is the principal federal law affecting education from kindergarten through high school.

Highly qualified teachers and instructional prarprofessionals
NCLB requires teachers of core academic subjects and instructional paraprofessionals working in schools or programs receiving Title I funding meet specific requirements to become highly qualified within the 2005-06 school year.

Adequate Yearly Progress
Adequate Yearly Progress was the accountability measure for Title I schools and districts in the 1994 reauthorization of the ESEA. Each state was required to develop its own formula based on state assessments in at least reading and mathematics.
