AFT Michigan Take Action: Political Action Center : ACE Program

ACTIVISTS FOR CONGRESSIONAL EDUCATION (ACE)

What is the ACE Program?

The Activists for Congressional Education (ACE) Program is a member-driven effort to strengthen the relationship between the AFT and Members of Congress. Under the program, AFT Michigan has established ACE Committees by congressional district. Participants will meet with their Member of Congress at least twice per year in the congressional home district office.

Members of the ACE Committee will be constituents of the Congressional member, and by meeting twice a year will start to build a lasting relationship and a more formalized line of communication with the Member of Congress and will be better able to communicate our union's positions on issues.

What are ACEs asked to do?

Participants are asked to do the following:

  • Meet, as part of the ACE Committee, with the Member of Congress at least twice per year to communicate on issues identified by the AFT Legislative Department.

  • Report to the AFT Legislative staff as to the outcome of the meetings via an online reporting system. Doing so will enable AFT lobbyists to better represent our members concerns when meeting with the Members of Congress.

  • Communicate with their local union thru the local union newsletter, or other appropriate means, the outcome of the meeting, e.g. educate the membership on the positions of the Member of Congress.

The work of the ACE Committees is supported by the staff at AFT Michigan and the AFT Legislative Department. If you would like to be part of an ACE Committee in your Congressional District please contact Agatha Butts Dier at the AFT Michigan office - adier@aftmichigan.org.
