AFT Michigan Take Action: Lobby Day 2006

Dear AFT Michigan Member:
Thank you for participating in LOBBY DAY 2006 on Thursday, March 2, at the Lansing Center, 333 East Michigan Avenue, Lansing, Michigan. It is very important that you communicate your views on education and funding policies to your Legislators. If you have business cards, it is a good idea to bring some with you to give to your State Senator and Representative.
The pre-luncheon briefing will start promptly at 11:00 a.m. Lunch with will be served from 12:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. From 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. you will break into small groups, according to legislative districts, for a town hall-style meeting with your legislators Then we will reconvene in the Ballrooms for a short reporting on the results of your meetings. Buses will depart from the Lansing Center at approximately 4:00 p.m.
We encourage you to contact your legislators to let them know you will be in Lansing. You will need to have pictured identification and professional attire in and around the Capitol Building and legislative office buildings. The tentative transportation schedule is as follows:
Detroit Area Transportation
Departs DFT Office: 8:00 a.m.
(2875 West Grand Boulevard)
Departs J. C. Penney's Parking Lot
At Northland Mall 8:30 a.m.
(Enter off John C Lodge Service Drive &
Park near the vacant Penney's building)
Departs Lansing: 4:00 p.m.

Northern Area Transportation
Departs Burger King in Mackinac City: 6:50 a.m.
Departs Burger King in Indian River: 7:20 a.m.
Departs Grayling Holiday Inn: 8:20 a.m.
Departs Houghton Lake Holiday Inn Express: 8:40 a.m.
Departs Harrison Burger King: 9:00 am.
Departs Lansing: 4:00 p.m.

For those of you who are driving to Lansing, I have enclosed directions to the Lansing Center. Parking is available in the ramp behind the Lansing Center. See enclosed map for additional parking information.
Also enclosed for your review are education issue papers. Please become familiar with these issues prior to meeting with your legislators on March 2. I am looking forward to seeing you.

This event is free and open to all members.
However, it is paid for with AFT Michigan dues money at a cost of $35.00 per person.
